MediaTek Gaining 2.5G Baseband Market Share

MediaTek has confirmed that 2.5G baseband shipments broke the two million unit threshold in June, bringing aggregate volume to over ten million units for the first half of 2005. As its volume rises, the Taiwanese chipmaker is increasingly threatening incumbent suppliers such as ADI and TI, while also causing a major decline in handset baseband ASP. MediaTek expects total 2005 volume of 2.5G offerings to reach between 25 million to 30 million units.
